Having the right lawn garden tools is essential for building and maintaining an attractive garden. Starting off with the proper lawn garden tools for the job will make your tasks easier or at least, you will be spare from running to your home improvement store every now and then to stock up.

Proper Yard and Garden Care

For a yard, the most obvious of all lawn garden tools is the lawn mower. This handy piece of machinery varies in size, your need will be based on the size of your lawn. A large yard may a riding lawn mower but most people just need a small lawn mower of the push variety. The lawn mower has come a long way, nowadays, you can find automated, self-propelled mowers, some which can even collect the grass cuttings and yet others which will turn it into compost and turn it back into the lawn.

A companion to the lawn mower is what some home owners fondly call the "weed whacker." This device, the weed trimmer is equipped with a special nylon string which is rotated really fast so that you can trim or "whack" your weeds down which grow along the side of your walkways, flower beds and along walls. Area of the yard where the mower cannot reach is easy game for the weed trimmer.

Manual Lawn Garden Tools

In addition to the large lawn garden tools like the weed trimmer and lawn mower, there are some essential manual powered tools which are needed for maintenance work in the yard. The garden rake is useful for raking grass cuttings, pulled weeds and debris into piles for disposal. A shovel for digging purposes should be among the basic lawn garden tools. It is useful for removing a dead shrub or to plant a tree.

Pruning shears and large cutting tools are also important lawn garden tools, especially when you have trees and shrubs. They are used for trimming overgrown and straggly-looking branches. Hedge shears, which look like large scissors, are perfect for detailing the shape of large bushes and shrubs. The pruning shears are generally used for cutting branches and large woody stalks.

Lawn garden tools can be a rather ambiguous category because it encompasses so many tools. Some of the tools listed above are obvious lawn garden tools but tools like wheel barrows, fertilizer spreaders, sprinkler systems, lawn sprayers, brooms, hoes and axes, to name a few, are also important lawn garden tools. Ultimately, the size of your yard will decide what types of lawn garden tools you will need.
